TIMMINS POLICE HOST 2ND ANNUAL “TREE OF HOPE” EVENT

As part of its commitment to truth and reconciliation, the Timmins Police Service had the honor of hosting the 2nd Annual Tree of Hope Ceremony held at the Timmins Police station this past Sunday.

This was the 2nd Annual event for Timmins Police Indigenous Advisory Committee.

The Tree of Hope is lit with red lights representing the many Missing, Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 Spirit (MMIWG2S) and LGBQ individuals in Canada.

Thunder Bay Police initiated this ceremony four years ago as a way to honour and bring awareness to MMIWG2S people.

The Indigenous Communities believe there are over 4000 Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 spirit and LGBQ individuals across Canada.

This event was crucial in terms of increasing public awareness of the plight of Indigenous persons as we strive to work together to educate all and to reduce the numbers in the future.

All lives matter and all people deserve to be treated equally.
