Two weeks ago a “good-natured” food drive competition was entered into between the Timmins Police Service and the Timmins Fire Department.
At the end of the competition, it became very clear that the Timmins Police Service managed to gather up a sizeable amount of non-perishable food items destined for local food banks.
In all, a total of over 500 lbs of food had been amassed during the campaign.
As a result, the local food banks stand to benefit from Brenda Beaven taking on this task in the absence of more standard food drives canceled by Covid.
This time of year, just before Thanksgiving, places a lot of supply pressure on area food banks. This competition could not have happened at a better time in order to relieve some of that pressure.
As a result of winning the competition, the Timmins Police Service flag has been hung outside of the Timmins Fire Department on Cedar Street South and will be on display for an entire week
