TIMMINS POLICE TO REPORT OF FIREARM BEING DISCHARGED – CONTAIN AREA – UNDERTAKE ARRESTS

The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service regarding the discharge of a firearm at a Sixth Avenue apartment building at approximately 11:00 p.m. yesterday evening.

Responding Timmins Police officers contained the immediate area for public safety reasons.

Residents in the immediate area were evacuated by the Timmins Police while occupants of nearby residences were advised to remain indoors for the time being.

Access to Sixth Avenue from Tamarack Street to Balsam Street North was completely restricted with sections of Pine Street North and Cedar Street North being equally affected.

The Timmins Police deployed its Emergency Response Team and contained the immediate area while awaiting the arrival of the OPP’s canine unit and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).

Initial efforts by Timmins Police Service – Critical incident Negotiators were undertaken as well.

As of approximately 10:30 this morning, two male persons were taken into custody by the Timmins Police Service; there are no further public safety concerns.

The immediate area remains under the control of the Timmins Police Service to allow investigators the ability to complete their investigation.

The names of the suspects will not be released until such time as the Criminal Code informations outlining the charges against both men are determined and sworn.
