The Timmins Police Service partnered up again this spring with DARE Timmins and other community stakeholders for its annual Youth Camp at Camp Bickell.
The organizers hosted 88 local students who were chosen to attend.
Guest speakers included “Retro Bill” who provided inspirations messaging about self-worth and self-esteem,
Brock McGillis, who spoke about the challenges of confronting homophobia in professional sports
and Kate Durst who spoke about personal achievement and goal setting.
Semi-competitive games of volleyball, soccer, ping pong and BubbleZuit soccer were enjoyed by the students and facilitators.
The theme of the weekend was to “Be Yourself”
One of the students was quoted as saying “I just wanted to say that this weekend was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while, between the opportunities to meet new people
and the guest speakers, this camp really influenced me to take strides to become the leader I could be. I can’t wait for next years camp!”
