TIMMINS POLICE RESPOND TO “SUSPICIOUS PERSON” CALL FOR SERVICE – ARREST WANTED PERSON

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with assault-related Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning at the intersection of Balsam Street North and Eighth Avenue.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a report of a suspicious person lurking in the area by a concerned citizen at approximately 12:15 this morning.

Upon arrival at the scene, one of the officers recognized a male party as being wanted by the Timmins Police on the strength of an Arrest Warrant.

As the attempt to arrest the subject was taking place, the male person engaged in assaultive behavior towards the officers.

The subject was eventually taken into custody with one of the arresting officer sustaining a minor injury.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, Charles SPENCE, 36, of Timmins, has been charged with:

–       Assault a Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–       Assault a Peace Officer With a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–       Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
