TIMMINS POLICE LOCATE AND ARREST “SMASH AND GRAB” BANDIT

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with theft-related offences stemming from an incident that occurred at a local retail enterprise during the afternoon hours of Wednesday, February 5th.
A lone male suspect is alleged to have donned a mask and entered the retail store at approximately 4:10 p.m. and proceeded to smash a display case and make off with a significant amount of second-hand jewelry. The suspect fled on foot to avoid being captured.
Responding Timmins Police Service officers searched the immediate area while others commenced the investigation into the matter at the Algonquin Blvd store.
Based on the information collected by means of a thorough investigation by the Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division, a suspect was identified, located, and arrested on Sunday, February 9th.
As a result of the incident, Jaime LEWIS BECKFORD, 41, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with:
– Theft Over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada – Use Disguise with Intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada – Mischief to Property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada – Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. – Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused has been released from custody on the strength of an Undertaking requiring that he attend Provincial Court in Timmins on March 24th to answer to the charges laid against him.
