TIMMINS POLICE LAY ADDITIONAL CHARGES AGAINST FUGITIVES ARRESTED LAST WEEK

The Timmins Police Service has laid additional Criminal Code charges against a wanted fugitive from Toronto and a Young Offender from Toronto stemming from its investigation into an incident that occurred at a downtown hotel in Timmins during the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 23rd.

In keeping with their investigation and the execution of a Search Warrant on a vehicle seized during the arrest of the suspects during the late afternoon of June 23rd, a quantity of controlled substances and Canadian currency was located and seized as evidence.

Additionally, a firearm was seized on June 23rd in keeping with the process of the investigation and related crime scenes.

The suspects had fled to Schumacher where they abandoned a vehicle that was seized by the Timmins Police in order to secure further physical and forensic evidence.

The incident culminated in the arrest of both parties during a maneuvered and controlled stop of a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Brunette Road and Algonquin Blvd at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23rd.

In addition to the existing charges (listed below) against, Trayvon STEWART, 19, of Toronto, and a 16-year-old male young person, the following charges have been laid respectively against them.  They include

– 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

– Possession of a Loaded Restricted or Prohibited Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Carry a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

These charges are in addition to charges (listed below) that have already been laid against these suspects.

 

– Carry a Firearm in a Careless Manner contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Occupy a Motor Vehicle – Knowing a Firearm is Within contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of Proceeds of Crime Over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

A comprehensive investigation into their actions within the city of Timmins prior to arrest is still underway by the Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division.

Based on the initial findings of that investigation, Trayvon STEWART is charged with additional counts of:

– Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle – Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Flight from Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Both accused persons remain in custody awaiting trial.
