TIMMINS POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL COLLISION INVOLVING CYCLIST

The Timmins Police Service is continuing its investigation into a motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 5:30 this morning on Hwy 101 just east of Schumacher where the operator of an eastbound tractor-trailer unit struck an eastbound cyclist.

The cyclist, a 59-year-old man from Schumacher, was taken to Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment for serious injuries.

The man has since succumbed to his injuries and has been pronounced as deceased.

The deceased has been positively identified as Robert MORIN, 59, of Schumacher.

Next-of-kin notifications have been completed.

The collision site located just east of the east intersection of Father Les Costello Drive and Highway 101 remains under the control of the Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section.

The Timmins Police has deployed its Technical Traffic Collision Investigations officers to analyze the collision scene in collaboration with Forensic Identification officers to determine the root cause of the collision.

 

The tractor-trailer unit is being subjected to a thorough mechanical fitness inspection as part of the investigative process.

The comprehensive investigation into the collision remains underway which means traffic flows in this area will experience delays.

The use of alternate traffic routes is encouraged.
