TIMMINS POLICE INVESTIGATE ASSAULTIVE INCIDENT – LAY CHARGES

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a disturbance that occurred during the evening hours of Saturday, May 7th in a Pearl Avenue parking lot where a 15-year-old male youth was assaulted.

Based on investigation, it was determined that a 15-year-old male suspect was confronted about being in possession of a stolen bicycle.

The suspect refused to turn the stolen item over to the rightful owner and entered into a physical altercation resulting in a laceration to a 15-year-old youth.

The suspect was located and arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

The victim received medical treatment for the injury he sustained during the altercation.

Based on the ensuing investigation, a 15-year-old male person who cannot be named in keeping with the stipulations of the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

Further investigation revealed that a female young person present during the altercation was in breach of court-imposed conditions regarding associating with certain specific persons.

As a result, a 13-year-old female person who cannot be named in keeping with the stipulations of the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with:

–           Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
