The Timmins Police Service has arrested and charged a local man with Robbery related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the early evening hours of Thursday, September 7th where a 19-year-old man was assaulted during an attempt to steal a bicycle
The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Mountjoy Street South hotel where a cyclist was accosted by the suspect. The cyclist was forced to the ground and assaulted by the suspect.
A number of concerned citizens interceded and held the suspect in place until the police arrived.
The suspect was arrested and taken into police custody.
As a result of the incident, Darren TAYLOR, 30, of Timmins has been charged with:
– Robbery contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
He is further charged with the following offences stemming from a shoplifting incident that occurred on August 25th at the Timmins LCBO outlet.
– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
He remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to all the charges laid against him.
