Police respond to call involving barricaded person; resident apprehended safely

On February 12, 2018 at approximately 8 p.m., patrol officers from the Timmins Police Service responded to a call regarding a possible dispute at a residence in South Porcupine. When officers arrived on scene, an individual barricaded himself inside the residence. Police received information that the individual involved may have a weapon.

The scene was secured by officers and the Timmins Police Service’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) attended the scene at approximately 11 p.m. At approximately 2:35 a.m., members of the ERT gained access to the residence and the suspect was safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act.

As a result of the incident, a 20 year-old Timmins resident faces charges of:

  • Mischief under $5000;
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm; and
  • Breach of probation

The accused’s name cannot be published for privacy reasons, as the incident involved a Mental Health Act apprehension.
