On February 1, 2018, police received a report of a break and enter at a residence in Timmins. Further investigation by patrol officers and members of the Criminal Investigation Section revealed that at approximately 3:00 a.m., four individuals allegedly entered a residence and committed an assault on the victim. Information received by police indicated that firearm had been brandished in the altercation. The suspects and victim are known to each other.
Following the break and enter, the suspects fled the scene and were located a short time later following a search by uniform patrol officers. A high-risk take down was conducted and two suspects were arrested without incident. The remaining two suspects were located by police during the afternoon of February 1, and arrested without incident. The weapon has been recovered by police.
As a result, Pascal BELANGER, 27, of Timmins, Devin DEMARCHI, 25, of Timmins, Montanah DUPRAS, 18, of Timmins and a 17 year-old young offender all face charges of:
- Break and Enter and commit indictable offence
- Assault with a weapon
- Use firearm while committing an offence
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Demarchi was further charged with:
- Pointing a firearm, and;
- Breach of probation
All four individuals were held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for today, February 2, 2018 in the Ontario Court of Justice. The name of the Young Offender cannot be released pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
