The Timmins Police Service has charged a local woman with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred at a downtown shelter during the late evening hours of Thursday, May 14th.
A Timmins Police Service officer was alerted to a disturbance taking place in the lobby of a downtown homeless shelter where a person was in the midst of disrupting the residents and staff within the shelter.
Upon arrival, the woman was escorted outside of the shelter by the Timmins Police Service.
It was determined that the woman was in breach of curfew conditions attached to a sentence imposed by the Provincial Court in Timmins.
Upon being informed of her arrest for the breach of sentence conditions, the woman fled on foot but was apprehended shortly afterward by the Timmins Police officer.
The woman continued to physically resist the arrest but was eventually taken into custody.
As a result of the incident, Melissa IAHTAIL, 35, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Resist/Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code
The woman remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against her.
