It is with deep regret that we mourn the death of one of our steadfast volunteer members, Auxiliary Staff Sergeant Darryl Bender, who passed away March 12, 2018 at the Timmins and District Hospital following an illness.

Darryl was an original member of our current Auxiliary Unit and served our organization with pride since March of 2005. He devoted countless volunteer hours to the Timmins Police Service and his community. His dedication was evident and led to his promotion to the rank of Auxiliary Staff Sergeant. Well-respected and committed, Darryl performed support duties alongside our sworn officers during hundreds of events and ride-alongs over the past thirteen years.

“Darryl epitomized the broadest, and perhaps the most meaningful definition of volunteering: doing more than you have to because you want to, in a cause you consider good. He will be missed dearly by our organization,” said Deputy Chief Des Walsh.

Flags at the Timmins Police Service headquarters will be half-masted until Friday as a tribute to Darryl’s commitment and service to our organization. Our sincere condolences are extended to his family and police colleagues.
