The Timmins Police officially launched the Festive RIDE campaign this morning in conjunction with the local MADD chapter, the OPP, Northern College Police Foundations students and Santa Claus.

The focus this year, as it is every holiday season, is to send an appropriate message to the motoring public in terms of the following:

1)    Today’s event should serve as a friendly reminder to take the steps necessary to avoid impaired driving situations

2)    The Timmins Police urge all drivers to be mindful that RIDE spot checks will be part of the motoring landscape leading up to the new year.

3)    So far this year, the Timmins Police has charged 56 persons with impaired driving related offences.  We deem each of these cases as “preventable” and a sign of a lack of planning.

4)    Timmins Police officers have the authority and capability to act on any signs of impairment that they observe while on patrol or when conducting RIDE spot-checks

5)    Working in collaboration with the local MADD chapter, the Timmins Police hope the intended messaging reaches all drivers, reminding them of their responsibilities

6)    The Timmins Police, once again this holiday season, will be devoting manpower and specific resources to making Timmins roadways as safe as possible.  Do your part by planning for a safe ride home.
