Snowmobiler charged following collision on city street

On Friday, December 8, police responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a snowmobile, in the area of Moneta Ave. and Railway St. in Timmins.

Reports indicate that the driver of the snowmobile traveling on the roadway struck the rear of a vehicle that had come to a stop. Fortunately no injuries were sustained.

As a result of the collision, the 32 year-old snowmobile driver was charged with offences pursuant to the City of Timmins By-Law and the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, including:

  • Fail to report circumstances of collision
  • Drive – no insurance; and
  • Follow too closely

The Timmins Police Service would like to take this opportunity to remind snowmobilers that riding on City streets is not permitted, and can result in collisions as demonstrated in the incident above. The only streets permitted for snowmobile travel are the streets which make up part of the OFSC trail system, once trails become available. Please note that the OFSC trails remain closed at this time.

Being aware of, and abiding by all applicable laws and regulations is the responsibility of every snowmobiler operator, and will ensure a safe riding season for everyone.
