TIMMINS POLICE CHARGE LOCAL WOMAN WITH BREAK AND ENTER – RECOVER STOLEN PROPERTY

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local woman with Break and Enter related offences stemming from an incident that occurred either during the late evening hours of Saturday, May 13th or the early morning hours of Sunday, May 14th, at a Bogey Drive residence in Timmins.

Based on investigation, the Timmins Police Service had determined that the suspect gained entry by force into the residence and proceeded to steal a number of items including a firearm and fled by stealing a vehicle belonging to the property owner.

The stolen vehicle was observed during the early morning hours of May 14th by the Timmins Police as it was being operated in an erratic fashion on Algonquin Blvd East.

A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle at the time, was interviewed.

Based on observations made by the officer, the driver was arrested and transported to the police station to complete Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) testing procedures.

The status of the vehicle as “stolen” was determined by the officer along with recovery of the  other stolen property, as it was discovered within the vehicle, pursuant to the arrest.

The subject was subjected to DRE testing procedures but refused to comply with a demand for a blood sample.

As a result, Hailie LAPORTE, 28, of Timmins, has been charged with:

– Break and Enter contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Theft of Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Impaired Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Careless Use of Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of Restricted / Prohibited Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of Firearm – Contrary to Court Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Fail to Comply with Blood Demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Drive While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.

The damage to the property in terms of repair costs has yet to be determined.

The stolen property has been recovered by the Timmins Police Service
