TIMMINS POLICE CHARGE LOCAL MAN WITH NUMEROUS CRIMINAL CODE OFFENCES

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of offences stemming from a lengthy series of recent incidents that culminated with his arrest on Saturday, December 11th at a Dwyer Street address in Schumacher.

The Timmins Police responded to an “unwanted person” call for service and located the subject of the complaint in a closet of the residence.

Further investigation yielded the seizure of animal repellent spray, a folding knife, and a set of brass knuckles on his person.

The subject was taken into custody by the Timmins Police Service.

Based on this incident, Justin BOWERMAN, 33, of Schumacher, has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Carry a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 2 counts of Possession of a Weapon contrary to a Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Based on a number of concurrent investigations the Timmins Police have laid additional charges against this same accused stemming from various incidents.

During the late evening hours of Monday, November 22nd, the accused and his accomplice, Alan YOUNG, 39, of Schumacher attended at an Algonquin Blvd hotel and proceeded to gain forced entry into a utility area and stole a number of tools.

Additionally, during the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 23rd, the accused and his accomplice, Alan YOUNG, 39, of Schumacher attended at an Algonquin Blvd restaurant and proceeded to gain forced entry into a storage container and stole various pieces of office equipment.

Based on these incidents, Alan YOUNG, 39, and Justin BOWERMAN, 33, of Schumacher, have been charged respectively with:

–           Break and Enter contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada                                                  – 2 counts each of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

BOWERMAN stands accused of 4 additional counts Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

YOUNG has been released from custody on the strength of an Undertaking that compels him to attend his next court appearance slated for Wednesday, December 22nd at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.

Based on investigation, it has been determined that during the late afternoon hours of Friday, November 26th, BOWERMAN attended at a Riverside Drive retail garage and proceeded to steal a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck from the property.

Based on this incident, the suspect has been charged with:

–           Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–            Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           4 counts of Operate a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Further investigation has determined that, on Sunday, November 28th, BOWERMAN attended at a Croatia Street residence and proceeded to steal an Ontario licence plate from a parked pickup truck found on the property.

Based on this incident, the suspect has been charged with:

–           Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–         Remove Licence Plate Without Authority contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

–           Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Based on further investigation, it has been determined that during the early morning hours of Sunday, November 28th, BOWERMAN was the subject of a traffic stop by a Timmins Police officer in Schumacher.  The accused was driving a stolen 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck at the time.  The accused deployed bear spray in an effort to disable the officer and flee the scene.  BOWERMAN did manage to successfully escape the immediate area.

Based on this incident, the suspect has been charged with:

–           Possession of a  Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           Flight form Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           4 counts of Operate a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–             Assault Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–            Administer a Noxious Substance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–            Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

  •       2 counts of Possess a Firearm contrary to a Probation Order
  •       2 counts of Use Plate Not Authorized contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  •      Obstruct Plate contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  •      Drive While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Based on further investigation, it has been determined that during the early morning hours of Monday, November 29th, BOWERMAN attended at an Algonquin commercial address and forced entry into an enclosed trailer parked on site.   The accused stole between $7,000 to $10,000 worth of tools which have since been recovered by the Timmins Police Service.

Based on this incident, the suspect has been charged with:

–           Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           Theft Over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–     Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Lastly and based on further investigation, it has been determined that during the afternoon hours of Sunday, November 29th, BOWERMAN proceeded to paint a stolen 2011 Dodge Ram in an effort to alter or disguise its appearance at a Schumacher address.

Based on this incident, the suspect has been charged with:

–           Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

–           Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was arrested on December 12th in Schumacher and remains in custody pending his next court appearance slated for Friday, December 17th at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
