TIMMINS POLICE CHARGE LOCAL MAN WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION AND WEAPONS CHARGES

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Impaired Driving related Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the mid-morning hours of Thursday, January 26th in the north end of Timmins.

While on patrol, a Timmins Police officer observed a pickup truck being driven in an erratic fashion on Fifth Avenue.

The officer observed the driver continuously and persistently spinning the rear wheels of the vehicle.

The driver refused to bring the vehicle to a stop as directed by police and eventually came to a stop on Cedar Street North.

The driver deployed a canister of bear spray within the vehicle and persisted in pointing the cannister at the responding officers.

The driver eventually complied with the demands made of him and was arrested.

A quantity of a controlled substance was located on the driver’s person along with a knife hanging around his neck.

Based on observations, the driver was transported to the Timmins Police station to complete Drug Recognition Expert testing procedures.

As a result of the incident, Justin BOWERMAN, 34, of Timmins, has been charged with:

– Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Flight from Police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– 2 counts of Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– 2 counts of Carry a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– 3 counts of Driving While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Assault Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Improper Muffler contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

– Stunt Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

– Drive While under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

– Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act

The vehicle used during the offences has been impounded.

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice to address the charges laid against him.
