TIMMINS POLICE CHARGE LOCAL MAN WITH FORCIBLE CONFINEMENT RELATED OFFENCES

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with spousal assault related Criminal Code offences stemming from a lengthy set of incidents that occurred during the last 30 days.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service where a 39-year-old female person had been held captive and physically assaulted by a male suspect in a series of physical altercations.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had repeatedly held the female victim captive on a number of occasions and would proceed to assault her when she would try to escape.

At one point, the suspect rendered the victim’s cell phone inoperative so that she could not contact other persons.

Based on investigation, the suspect was identified, located, and arrested by the Timmins Police Service yesterday evening.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, a 54-year-old male Timmins man who will not be named to protect the identity of the victim, has been charged with:

  • 3 counts of Aggravated Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 3 counts of Assault Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 6 counts of Forcible Confinement contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 6 counts of Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 6 counts of Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Sexual Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 4 counts of Possession of Firearm / Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 24 counts of Fail to Comply – Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
