TIMMINS POLICE ARREST LOCAL PERSON FOR THEFT AND ASSAULT

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday evening at a restaurant in Timmins.

A person attended at the restaurant and proceeded to steal an item from a display and fled on foot.

The suspect was confronted by a staff member and the stolen item was recovered.

Shortly afterwards, the suspect struck the restaurant staff member as the Timmins Police attended the scene.

The responding Timmins Police officer arrested the female suspect and took her into police custody.

A quantity of a controlled substance was located on the suspect’s person upon arrest.

The restaurant staff member was treated at the scene by responding paramedics.

As a result of the incident, Starr FARIES, 45, of Timmins, has been charged with:

– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

FARIES remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
