TIMMINS POLICE ARREST ASSAULTIVE SHOPLIFTER

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday morning at an Algonquin Blvd grocery store.

Based on investigation, it has been determined that a woman attended the store and proceeded to conceal a number of items on her person.

Upon being confronted, the woman struck a store clerk and then fled the store on foot.

The responding Timmins Police officer was able to identify, locate, and arrest the female suspect at a Spruce Street South building later that same day.

It was further determined that the Timmins Police Service holds a valid Arrest Warrant for the female suspect.

As a result of the incident, Melissa IAHTAIL, 37, of Timmins, has been charged with:

– Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

IAHTAIL remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
