Postal worker charged following alleged thefts from mail

The Timmins Police Service recently completed an investigation in conjunction with Canada Post inspection in relation to incidents involving alleged thefts from mail.

Information received by police indicated that in December of 2017, the theft of store gift cards had occurred from envelopes while in transit through Canada Post.

Following an investigation by Canada Post and the Timmins Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Section, former employee Johanne COSSETTE-DUFOUR, 57, of Timmins faces charges of:

  • Theft from mail – sent by post (S. 356(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada)
  • Possession of article stolen from mail (S. 356(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada)

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear in court with a future court date scheduled for March 27, in the Ontario Court of Justice.
